Date Conventions
Unlike in USA, dates are written in the DD/MM/YYYY format, where DD is the date, MM is the

2006. |

| Currency & Payment The
legal tender in India is the Rupee. India adopted the decimal monetary system in 1957 when
One Rupee was deemed to consist of 100 paise. Coins are issued in denominations of 25p,
50p, Re.1, Rs. 2 & Rs.5 & currency notes are issued in denominations of Rs. 5, Rs.
10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs.100, Rs. 500 & Rs.1000*.
Credit cards are widely accepted as a mode payment at all the major hotels, shopping
centers & airline booking counters. Payments for general expenses (travelling within
city, tips etc) need to be made in Indian rupees (INR). Travellers' Cheques are
exchangeable for cash in major hotels, shopping outlets, banks moneychangers, etc.
You also can draw cash from a wide network of international ATMs. (Master, VISA, Cirrus,
Maestro, Plus) * Denominations are subject to change without notice. |

| Food & Drinking Water Italian,
Continental, Chinese... all these cuisines are easily available across all the major
cities in India.
Widely acknowledged as one of the world's great cuisines, India's cuisine is as rich and
diverse as its people. India offers you an exotic choice of cuisine, known the world over
for its variety and flavor. The Indian cuisine shows big variation and with great local
specialties. If you like food, India is a great place. However, we suggest that you avoid
eating at roadside stalls and wherever possible, ask for bottled mineral water. |
